Study Description

Medical Devices: Supporting the Massachusetts Economy (for the Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council).

Alan Clayton-Matthews and Rebecca Loveland

(May, 2004).

The medical-device community is an integral component of the Massachusetts economy, providing high-paying jobs and designing and manufacturing some of the world's most innovative medical products. The development and marketing of medical devices has a "ripple effect" on the state's economy and its population's well-being. While not the largest technology-based cluster in the state, the medical-device sector has performed well despite downturns in the national and regional economies. Massachusetts policy makers need to develop legislation and regulation to support the medical-device industry's continued growth and expansion.
